Our Products

Quality products customised to client requirements

Our plants are designed and built to provide the best quality products customised to client requirements, with continuous improvements in line with global best practice to improve quality and productivity, moderate product costs, and reduce carbon footprint and emissions.

We play a leading role in the importation of quality bitumen as local production slows and have invested in our own bitumen storage facilities in Durban and Cape Town and increased storage capacity at all our plants.

Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) consists of a precise blend of aggregate, bitumen and mineral filler. The proportions are customised based on the specific application, with mixing and paving conducted at elevated temperatures to ensure optimal compaction.

  • Tailored Solutions: We offer individualised mixes based on traffic load, road category, safety requirements, climatic conditions, and acoustic needs.
  • Quality Indicators: The selection of aggregate size and quality, alongside specific bituminous binder grades, directly determines the resulting pavement strength, durability, and surface texture.
  • Generic HMA Range: Includes sidewalk, tank base, and sand mixes; levelling and wearing courses; porous, stone mastic, and semi-rigid asphalt; and polymer-modified binders.
  • Specialist Range: We supply differentiated products such as Micropave, UTFCs, UTLAs, and the support coat for Salphalt.
  • GB5® High Modulus Asphalt: This high-performance system, designed for extreme loading conditions. It can be applied as a base or surface layer using conventional paving methods.

Recycled Asphalt (RA) – Asphalt pavement is 100% recyclable. Through milling, crushing, and screening existing layers, we integrate reclaimed material into virgin mixes

  • Capability: Depending on project specifications and plant technology, we can incorporate between 10% and 50%+ recycled content.
  • WMA Integration: Significant percentages of RA can also be successfully integrated into Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) designs.

For more information on reclaiming, handling and storing RA as well as environmental and improved performance benefits, please download our Recycled Asphalt brochure.

Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) is produced at significantly lower temperatures than traditional HMA resulting in a significant range of benefits during production and paving.

  • Technology: By modifying the consistency of bituminous binders to increase fluidity at lower temperatures, we facilitate efficient mixing and compaction with reduced energy consumption.
  • Performance: Technical trials indicate that WMA performance is equal, and in some applications superior, to HMA.

For more information on WMA, please download our Warm Mix Asphalt brochure.

Cold Mix is an eco-friendly, cost-effective solution for minor road repairs, potholes, and low-traffic areas like sidewalks or playgrounds.

  • Versatility: Ideal for remote sites where HMA transport is impractical. Available in coarse, medium, and fine gradings.
  • Shelf Life: Sealed bags remain viable for up to 12 months. The product requires no heating or onsite mixing; it is ready for immediate placement and compaction.

We offer a variety of specialised surfacing solutions including:

  • Bitumen Rubber Porous Thin Surfacing.
  • Hot Mix Micro Surfacing.
  • Ultra-Thin Friction Courses (UTFC).
  • Impermeable Coal Yard Surfacing.
  • Dam Linings.

GB5 High Modulus Asphalt System is a high-performance asphalt mix designed for extreme loading conditions. It can be applied as a base or surface layer using conventional paving methods.

GB5 consists of graded crushed aggregate, Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) modified bitumen, filler and reclaimed asphalt (RA) up to 25%.

GB5 was developed by French company Eiffage Travaux Publics, from whom Much Asphalt acquired the rights to manufacture the product. Much Asphalt has undertaken various successful GB5 trials on high traffic routes and has been awarded an Agrément Certification for this product.
